Resistance
released 1986 label - Heartbeat Records
It was on the advice of Bob Marley that Winston Rodney set off to Kingston and met with the head of Studio One Coxsone Dodd, where he and Rupert Willington performed three songs. Dodd chose one "Door Peep" for the duos first single, and then before the single was released Rodney decided to use the name Burning Spear, after Jomo Kenyatta the president of Kenya. After Door Peep went on sale Burning Spear recruited Delroy Hinds and so they became a trio. The album Resistance was nominated for a grammy in 1985. Resistance is one of my favourites of all the Burning Spear albums, the backing whilst ditinctively Spear is a little more forceful than some of the other albums he has made, which gives it just a bit more roots quality.
