Born Frank Dowding in Saint Mary Parish, Jamaica He adopted the name Kiddus I after becoming a Rastafarian in 1971. Dowding was a member of Ras Michael's Sons Of Negus from 1971 to 1978, singing and playing funde drums. Rockers director Theodoros Bafaloukos had seen Kiddus recording "Graduation In Zion" in 1976, two years before the film was made, and decided to film Kiddus recording the track as part of the movie. Kiddus had by then released a few singles on his own Shepherd label, including "Security In The Streets" which was recorded with Lee Perry at his Black Ark studio. In June 2009, Kiddus I released Green Fa Life , Kiddus I teamed up with legends Earl "Chinna" Smith and Leroy 'Horsemouth' Wallace, to name but few of the very well-known musicians that played on the album. He is blessed with a wonderful singing voice. and best known for his part in one of the best reggae movies Rockers, where he sings the classic Graduation in Zion. Kiddus I has not been a very prolific artist during his career, which is a shame I for one would love to hear more from him. If you are looking for something different , then the album Inna De Yard is it, this album is pure acoustic reggae, with not much more than a binghi drum a guitar and the unique voice of Kiddus I. This is the album you play late at night or first thing in the morning when you want to chill. With Earl Chinna Smith playing guitar. Ras Michael Jnr. on binghi drums, and Kiddus I's soulful singing, the songs are meditative and occasionally hypnotic, with a raw unpolished feel to them. This is the ideal album to relax with.
